A Fresh Take on Urban Driving

The new Kia Stonic isn’t just a compact SUV — it’s a smarter, sharper way to take on New Zealand’s roads. With bold new styling, upgraded tech like dual 12.3-inch displays, and efficient powertrains including a mildhybrid option, the Stonic brings big-car features into a city-friendly package.

For Kiwi drivers who want practicality without giving up style or technology, the refreshed Stonic is the crossover that fits. Whether it’s daily commutes, weekend getaways, or navigating tight city streets, this is the SUV that makes every drive feel modern, connected, and effortless.

Opposites United Inspired Design: Bold and Modern

The new Stonic introduces a sharper, refreshed look that is in line with Kia’s latest design philosophy, “Opposites United” – using the concepts of disruption and contrast to create characterful designs that evolve the identity of Kia.

At the front, slimmer LED headlights flank a reworked grille, while the rear gains sleeker light signatures and a reshaped bumper. Buyers now also see refreshed alloy wheel designs, with GT-Line variants featuring sportier 17-inch rims.

There are also two new paint finishes, “Adventurous Green” and “Yacht Blue”, expanding the palette and adding a more youthful and adventurous feel to the Stonic’s urban-friendly proportions.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the update is more than skin-deep. The centrepiece is a dual 12.3 inch display setup, combining a digital driver’s cluster with a widescreen infotainment system. A new touch-sensitive “multimode” panel replaces the old, traditional HVAC controls, allowing drivers to toggle between climate and media functions.

Other notable refinements include upgraded materials, a redesigned steering wheel, USB-C ports, ambient lighting, and wireless phone charging. GT-Line trims also gain sportier touches throughout the interior.

Powertrain and Efficiency

Kia continues to offer the Stonic with its 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine; however, there will also be a mild-hybrid system available, which will contribute to lower fuel consumption by enabling engine shut-off while coasting. While Australia has confirmed the MHEV option, there has not yet been confirmation on whether the New Zealand market will receive this variant.

Available overseas in both six-speed manual and seven-speed dual clutch transmissions; however, information is unavailable on whether the New Zealand market will see the six-speed manual variant.

Safety and Connectivity

Safety and driver assistance have also been bolstered, offering Kia’s comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Package. Including blindspot monitoring, safe exit warning, forward collision avoidance, smart cruise control (adjusting speed into corners), and adaptive cruise with lane keeping.

The new Stonic also features Kia Connect services (as seen in the EV5 example in the image below), offering cloud-based services, vehicle diagnostics, and remote vehicle interaction via the Kia App. This app features a new Digital Key function, allowing drivers to unlock and start the vehicle using their smartphone or smartwatch.

Practicality Remains

The Kia Stonic continues to offer compact dimensions that are ideal for city driving, measuring 4,165mm in length. Featuring a 352-litre boot, 1,070mm of front legroom, practical rear passenger dimensions, and roomy class-leading interior space, making the Kia Stonic a practical choice for urban families and young professionals alike.

Final Thoughts

The facelift Kia Stonic is more than a styling exercise. With added technology, expanded safety features, and improved efficiency, it feels like a meaningful step forward for the model.

For New Zealand buyers, the Stonic remains an attractive entry point into the SUV market — stylish, compact, and now significantly more up to date.

While final pricing and local specifications are still to be confirmed, the facelifted Stonic looks set to be one of Kia’s most relevant offerings for drivers wanting a small SUV that feels big on features.
